BBVA Compass Drives Innovation with Crossvale SOA

Crossvale implements SOA for BBVA Compass, helping to create a differentiated customer experience while simultaneously reducing time-to-market.

Background

BBVA Compass is a Sunbelt-based financial institution that operates more than 716 branches. It ranks among the top 20 largest U.S. commercial banks.

The banking industry is experiencing a rapidly shifting landscape that includes increased government regulation and customer demand for greater remote access. To respond accordingly, BBVA Compass decided to increase customer focus.. As part of a major overhaul of its technology infrastructure, BBVA Compass established a service-oriented architecture (SOA). This SOA methodology allowed the bank to realign strategic services and integrate with external business partners.

Challenges

  • BBVA Compass wanted to respond to the rapidly changing needs of their customers by providing them with more personalized and innovative services.
  • The Bank was developing a large number of services, working with several leading vendors. These development projects did not leverage other efforts, which led to duplication and less than optimal efficiency.
  • Customer data was distributed across multiple systems and application silos creating an incomplete picture of the holistic value of the Bank's customers.

Solutions

  • Crossvale developed and implemented a SOA technology infrastructure using the Software AG webMethods platform.
  • The Crossvale team architected a single universal data model to represent a customer across all applications.
  • Crossvale introduced SOA governance and management principles.
  • Crossvale created a reusable set of components to rapidly and efficiently introduce new business services.

Results

  • Delivery of many new service offerings more quickly and cost-effectively, including: CRM enhancements, customer referral program, deposit hold streamlining and collections management.
  • Reduced need for application developers to learn disparate systems or protocols, saving time and resources.
  • Repurposed legacy data from mainframe and business partner sources to enable net new services.
  • A significant return on investment (ROI) for BBVA Compass.
