Crossvale Honors Two Recipients of Combat Veterans Scholarship Award in 2010

The Crossvale Combat Veterans Scholarship, launched in the fall of 2009, is proud to award two deserving recipients $2,500 each in recognition of their combat service and ongoing education.  The 2010 scholarship winners are: Cristopher Wagner and John Leclair, both seniors majoring in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas’ Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science.

Cristopher Wagner has six years of active duty experience in the U.S. Army and served the past two years in the National Guard.  A self proclaimed perfectionist, Cristopher enjoys solving problems and finding efficiencies.  His career aspiration includes work in the defense industry or in renewable energy research.  Click here to learn more about Cristopher.

U.S. Army Sergeant John Leclair is used to dealing with challenges, on and off the battlefield.  With a passion for computers and electronics, he hopes to put his skills to the test.  Visit John’s profile here.

The Crossvale Combat Veterans Scholarship Award was created to financially assist high-potential candidates who have served our country and also want to pursue their educational goals.  This college scholarship is the first of what will become an annual scholarship fund.  In partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas, Crossvale will announce the 2011 scholarship winners in the fall semester to coincide with the 2011-2012 academic year.

Conor Brankin – chief executive officer of Crossvale, and the force behind the Combat Veterans Scholarship Award commented that it was established to give veterans a chance to follow their dreams and ambitions. “With the cost of college on the rise, students – especially veterans – find it difficult to reach their dreams for higher education.  Our hope is to offset some of the costs while recognizing their service to our country,” stated Mr. Brankin.

Crossvale President Jason Sharp, echoed Mr. Brankin’s statement and emphasized the importance of championing such an initiative that not only helps veterans but their families and the community.   “Crossvale wants to give back to those who have fought for our freedom and independence,” said Mr. Sharp.  He added “we look forward to engaging with the current and future scholarship recipients.”
